BiographyEducation

Los Angeles, California

Tosheff Piano Duo was the first ever piano-duo team admitted at the university level in the United States. Ilia and Vely studied piano with the world-renowned pianist John Perry at the University of Southern California (USC, Los Angeles) in the Artist Diploma program at the doctoral level at USC. The Thornton School of Music created a graduate program specially designed for the Tosheff Duo, and in 2007, the Tosheffs were awarded the Outstanding Graduate Award upon completion of their studies.

Hannover, Germany

In Germany, the Tosheff Duo was one of the first teams admitted in the newly designed (in 1999), Soloklasse in Piano Duo program at the Hochschule für Musik Hannover, one of the finest piano schools in Europe. The Soloklasse program is the highest level of graduate studies available in Germany. Twice recipients of a German Government Scholarship from the DAAD, Tosheff worked with the world-renowned pedagogue Bernd Goetzke, who was one of the last pupils of the great Italian pianist Arturo B. Michelangeli.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

One of their most notable collaborations was their work with the inspiring Professor Madamme Janine Reding of the famous Reding-Piette Piano Duo in Monaco. These studies were generously supported by the French Ministry of Culture.

Sofia, Bulgaria

Tosheff Piano Duo hold their Bachelor's degrees from The State Academy of Music in Sofia, where they studied as Open Society Scholars with Stella Dimitrova-Maistorova, Teodora Nestorova, and chamber music with Jenny Zacharieva and Dimitar Kozev.

Master Classes

The duo has also taken master classes with Sachiko Kodama and Yuko Yamaoka (Japan), Sekeira Costa, Lucinda Carver and Ray Luck (USA), Kevin Fitz-Gerald and Bruce Vogt (Canada), Paul Komen (Holland), Oleg Koshelev and Tammara Poddubnaya (Russia), Victor Chouchkov (Bulgaria), Marielena Fernandez (Austria), Zvi Meniker and Karsten Eckert (Germany).
